Where to Start
There are different ways to connect with NHCIA, depending on your age, needs, and the type of support you are looking for.
The sections below explain how children, youth, adults, and families can begin the process.
Children/Youth (Under 18)
Children and youth under 18 may be eligible for support through:
- Child and Family Support
Child and Family Support is available for children from birth to age 14 and their families through Rock Edge Centre at 113 Hastings Street. - Youth in Transition
Youth in Transition supports youth ages 14 to 25 and their families, please call us for an appointment.
These programs help young people and their families build skills, plan for the future, and connect with supports. Contact our office to learn more and discuss your situation.

Adults (18 and Older)
To receive most adult services, you must first register with
Developmental Services Ontario (DSO). DSO is the main entry point for adult developmental services in Ontario.
Once you are eligible, you may be connected to supports such as:
These services help adults build independence, take part in their community, and develop daily living skills.
What is Developmental Services Ontario (DSO)?
DSO helps determine if you are eligible for government-funded developmental services.
They also connect you to available supports funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
How DSO Can Help You
DSO can help you:
- Learn about supports in your community
- Understand and complete the application process
- Find out what services you may qualify for
- Access funded services when they become available
When to Apply
You can begin the DSO application process at age 16.
An assessment will be completed to determine eligibility for adult services.
Not Sure Where to Start?
That’s okay. You do not need to know the right program or application process before contacting us.
